Remain Humble.....

Remaining humble is easily said than done. It takes a lot of self discipline and prayer. I honestly don't think I could do it without prayer. One of the hardest things for me to do in life is being strong for others even when I feel like I want to break. My family is my weakness. Racism has been around awhile and sadly it still lives. It saddens me how people can pass this disgusting trait down to their kids.
It's very real and unfortunately my daughter has dealt with this during her middle school years. She is a very beautiful ,intelligent, and confident dark skin young lady. I can and will elaborate on this more in a future blog, but I needed to touch basis on this just a little to have a point of reference for today's blog. My point is that as I grow and learn more, it's easier for me to overlook negativity and ignorance, but it's harder for me to see my children having to learn to deal with it. As a child, my dad told me that there will always be ignorant people...I understood what he was saying, but I have a better understanding now. I have also had to tell my kids this.
We all have an option as to how we respond to ignorance . I will admit, that I have responded and was one of those persons who responded in a not so loving way. However, as you grow, you learn that there is a better way to respond. I am instilling this better way into my kids at a young age because sadly they have faced ignorance at a young age.Sadly I have been on the receiving end of hateful words as an adult, and I'm happy to say that I've grown into a more mature person to be able to handle those situations in a mature way.
Although some of life's experiences and challenges weren't so fun during the time, I now can see and understand the purpose of them. I thank God for keeping me during those hard times. I am grateful for those challenges bringing me into a more humble person. ~iMe~

A Deeper Look Into iMe

My life's experiences are what inspired my saying iMe. At one point in my life I was emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually drained from all my life's experiences and from what I saw as failures , flaws, and mistakes. I had to pick myself up and remind myself that I am beautiful in spite of what I have been through. I did a lot of praying and soul searching to find my inner peace. I am grateful for the woman I have become and I can now teach my daughter to be that same strong and beautiful young lady and also teach my son to be confident in himself in spite of what life throws at us. All of my apparel has a strong meaning behind it, and I am happy to be able to share them with others. I hope to remind others of their uniqueness and beauty that they have within themselves .

Melanated & Educated Part 2

Let me elaborate on being melanated, educated, and then add opinionated..Well I believe there's a difference in being real and there's a difference in being rude..Realness is not going to be something everyone likes or want to hear, but you can guarantee it will be truth or have some form of truth to it..
Cause the real issue is that not everyone can accept the fact that you can agree to disagree and that my opinion matters just as much as yours, and I'm ok with letting you know that when needed...Noooo this is not about being an angry black woman......The truth of the matter is Why is that everyone else that has an opinion is just being "REAL" but when an melanated, educated, and opinionated woman is and stands behind what she means, then she's an Angry Black Woman....
There is truth to this...I do agree that delivery is everything.
Nonetheless, there is still a stereotypical name used even when the delivery is everything.  I've learned that there will always be someone who misunderstands you so why worry about everyone understanding?
If I'm humble, and I know my intentions are well....then maybe they are the issue and not my opinion nor my delivery.....
     REMAIN HUMBLE..IN SPITE OF.....

What's all the talk about iMe?????

iMe.....

I have had a lot of people ask me, " What does iMe mean?"
My answer," It's my creative way of expressing myself..It means, I'm Me..."

The looks I get after I say this are priceless...
However, I'm Me is very meaningful to me and it has a deeply rooted meaning for me.

I'm me has reminded me over the years that I can't not be who people want me to be. I can't be what people expect me to be. I can't be what someone else wants me to be. I can only be me....
Being me will come with it's kinks as well. I have to learn from my flaws.  I have to pick myself up when I fall. I have to constantly remind myself that I am not the perfect person people perceive or expect me to be. I am human as well. Although some may have high expectations of me, I'm me has reminded me that it is totally find if I don't live up to anyone's expectations. WHY?

BECAUSE I AM HUMAN TOO!!!
Sometimes being someone who consistently exceeds at what they do can place you in a category where everyone expects and sees you as this "PERFECT PERSON"

WHAT IS PERFECT EXACTLY???
No one is perfect, but being young and wanting to live up the expectations of being such a scholarly person can make you attempt to be as perfect as you can in someone else eyes...

HOWEVER,
with life, there comes experiences, and my experiences have taught me that
I'm Me....... INSPITE OF....

CONFIDENCE
With life there comes obstacles. We must learn to embrace the challenges we face and take them as learning opportunities. We all will sometimes face a situation that we don't like. However, you as an individual  has the choice of how you handle the situation. In slang terms, you can either handle the situation or let the situation handle you. You have the choice to determine how you will be after the situation. Will you allow the situation to come out on top or will you rise to the occasion and you rise to the top?? The choice is yours, and I would hope that you would choose the option of winning ......

iMe™ Dark Skin & Confident

iMe Dark Skin & Confident

I want to elaborate on this design a little more. This particular motto was dedicated to my daughter. She is a beautiful dark skin young lady. However, there were school mates and so called friends of hers who liked to joke about it, make up names to call her, and attempt to make her feel " not so pretty." My daughter had always been a pretty confident yet humble person. Nonetheless, I noticed that she began to struggle with her identity. She was told that she is " Pretty for a Dark Skin Girl", she was told that " boys wouldn't like her because she's too dark."  She was given little nicknames. Honestly, I could care less at her age about whether boys liked her or not. Luckily, she and I are able to joke about the nicknames today. We actually look back and find them rather amusing.

It saddens me how society and other peers can be so mean, hateful, and degrading towards others. That's why I feel it's important to talk with your kids, especially teens. I am so grateful and blessed to have kids who are open to talking to me. I pray that we keep our communication as open as it is now.
I constantly remind my kids that being different is not a bad thing. It's not bad to stand out. It's not bad to be the person who is doing what you know is the better option. It's not bad to do right. It's not bad to be you.
